Kiwi Hape stars as England beat Baa-Baas
Shontayne Hape scored a try on his first appearance for England's rugby team in a 36-25 victory over the Barbarians at Twickenham on Sunday.
The New Zealand-born centre looked impressive as England opened up a lead of 25 points over the all-star line-up, although Martin Johnson's team saw that advantage reduced to six near the end.
James Haskell, Ben Foden and Mike Tindall also crossed the line for England and the Baa-Baas replied with two tries by Paul Sackey and one each by Census Johnston and David Smith.
A powerful burst by Haskell and a speedy break by Hape, boosted by two early penalties by the returning Charlie Hodgson, put England into a 20-0 lead before the Barbarians hit back.
Playing for the Barbarians against his England teammates after losing his spot on the national team, Sackey responded with a converted try but Foden went over just before halftime to send the home side into half time 25-7 ahead.
A veteran of England's 2003 World Cup triumph, Tindall weaved through several Barbarians tacklers for a fourth try to increase the lead to 25 points.
But Kiwi winger Smith went over for a converted try, Samoa's Johnston squeezed over in the corner and Sackey went over for his second try after an audacious inside pass by Cedric Heymans of France to cut the advantage to six points with four minutes to go.
England's players regained their composure and, after a spell of pressure near the Barbarians posts, Olly Barkley kicked a penalty to make sure of a victory with makes it five wins each for the two teams in games against each other.
