Aussie Morgan fined for ref blast
Hull Kingston Rovers coach Justin Morgan was fined STG4,000 ($A8,205.97), half of it suspended, on Wednesday after publicly branding a Super League referee as "substandard".
The 33-year-old Australian made his remarks about Ben Thaler following Rovers's 30-8 home loss to Huddersfield on Easter Monday, accusing the referee of letting the Giants "get away with blue murder".
Morgan was charged by the Rugby Football League with breaching their Respect policy and appeared at a tribunal hearing at the governing body's Leeds headquarters on Wednesday.
He was ordered to pay half the fine within the next 28 days with the remainder suspended until the end of the season.
Tribunal chairman Jim Spencer said: "Everybody in the game is entitled to respect."
Speaking at the time of the Huddersfield loss, Morgan said: "I am going to teach my side this week to throw forward passes, stand offside all day and tackle round the head because every time we get him, we get the raw end of the stick.
"If I had a player that wasn't up to standard, he gets dropped.
"He needs to spend some time learning the rules and getting in a position where he can understand the game better.
"It is absolutely disgraceful every time we get him. He is not up to this standard at all. He needs to spend some time at another grade, just like my players would.
"We turned up with the right attitude but got caned by the bloke in the middle and that is not acceptable in my eyes.
"Next time we get him we know what to expect - a substandard performance."
