Priddis happy to play big name Hawks
Hawthorn have rushed back 10 premiership stars for Friday's AFL practice match against West Coast at Princes Park, and Eagles midfielder Matt Priddis couldn't be happier.
Brent Renouf was the only member of the 2008 flag-winning team to feature for the Hawks in last week's 67-point loss to Adelaide in Berri.
But it will be a far different outfit who will tackle the Eagles, with captain Sam Mitchell, Norm Smith medallist Luke Hodge and Coleman Medallist Lance Franklin headlining a host of stars to return to the side.
Premiership players Brad Sewell, Jarryd Roughead, Mark Williams, Clinton Young, Brent Guerra, Stuart Dew, Cyril Rioli and Renouf have also been named in Hawthorn's 29-man squad.
"It's great," Priddis said of the Hawks' returning big guns.
"We want them playing.
"That's how we test ourselves - against the best players and the best sides.
"It's a fair opportunity for our whole side to play against Hawthorn.
"We want to test ourselves against the best in the competition and that's the opportunity we'll get this week.
"We've got some young guys who will get to play against guys who are the best in their position.
"That's always a great opportunity and we'll put the finishing touches on our style of play that we'll put in place in round one."
The Eagles rested skipper Darren Glass, Dean Cox, David Wirrpanda and Adam Selwood while Josh Kennedy (foot), Adam Hunter (shoulder) and Andrew Embley (knee) couldn't be considered.
Hunter has not played a single game during the pre-season after undergoing shoulder surgery in July last year, with ongoing pain in the joint limiting him to restricted duties on the training track.
Club officials concede his injury will have to be managed throughout the season but are confident the 27-year-old will be right to go for the season opener against Brisbane on March 28.
