Demons sign Green to new AFL deal
Melbourne have re-signed Brad Green to a new contract, which scuttles the chances of him being traded to another AFL club.
Green, 27, was linked with Collingwood, Carlton and Sydney during trade week, but the Demons confirmed on Friday that he had signed a new, three-year contract.
"It did take us longer than expected, but we respect the fact that this was a big decision for Brad, and we are pleased that he will now become a 10-year player for this team, and most likely a one-club man," said Melbourne football manager Chris Connolly.
"Not only has Brad been a sensational player for the Demons, but his leadership around the club will be vitally important as we develop and nurture our young group of players."
Green said he wanted to take time to make the right choice over his future, and was relieved his contracted talks were finally completed.
Green has played 186 games for 227 goals for Melbourne since 2000, and finished third in this year's best and fairest.
