Storm's Hoffman ruled out of NRL finals
Melbourne Storm back-rower Ryan Hoffman has undergone surgery on his ankle which will rule him out for the remainder of the NRL season and the rugby league World Cup.
Hoffman first sustained the injury in round 23 against the Sydney Roosters at Olympic Park, and he subsequently missed the next two games.
The Test forward returned for the final home-and-away game against South Sydney and played in the qualifying final loss to the Warriors and last Saturday night's dramatic semi-final win over Brisbane.
However, the high ankle sprain progressively worsened and in the end the decision was made for Hoffman to have surgery.
"He's had the surgery and is recovering at home and the initial prognosis from his surgeon suggests the operation was a success," said Storm high performance unit manager Mary Toomey.
"We will now monitor his recovery and we expect he'll be right to return to pre-season training."
