England rugby team investigated in NZ
New Zealand police are investigating unspecified allegations against up to four members of the touring England rugby team.
Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said the alleged incident occurred on Sunday in a private room at the Hilton Hotel in Auckland.
"We have spoken to management at the Hilton," Hegarty told AAP.
England lost the first Test to the All Blacks 37-20 at Eden Park on Saturday.
The allegation was brought to the attention of police on Sunday evening.
Hegarty said the investigation was only in its initial stages.
She refused to outline the nature of the allegation or who the complainants were.
Investigating officers were receiving the "appropriate level" of cooperation from the England rugby team management, she said.
England's Rugby Football Union said in a statement: "The England rugby team has been informed by Auckland police that an allegation has been made against four members of the England playing squad.
"Whilst no formal complaint has been made we are cooperating with the police and their inquiries.
"In the circumstances, we are unable to make any further comment."
Manager at the Hilton Auckland Hotel, John Ingram, said it was company policy not to comment on guests.
He refused to outline the allegations made against the rugby players.
The side is now in Christchurch preparing for Saturday's second Test.
