Cooper to stay with Dragons till 2011
St George Illawarra centre Matt Cooper agreed on Tuesday to remain at the NRL club for a further three years, keeping him at the Dragons until the end of 2011.
Cooper had been weighing up offers from other NRL clubs and the English Super League but instead turned his back on more lucrative deals to remain with his local club.
The Shellharbour junior said he was committed to remaining a one club player and was looking forward to playing under new coach Wayne Bennett next season.
"I feel I still have a lot to offer the club and I see a very bright future here about which I am excited," he said.
"It is a pretty big day for me. Being picked for (NSW) Origin and knowing that I am staying at the Dragons, I couldn't be happier."
The news of Cooper's re-signing could not come at a better time for Dragons fans with the possibility of team captain Mark Gasnier leaving at the end of this season.
Gasnier is considering an offer to leave the club and join close mate Craig Gower in playing rugby union in France.
