St Kilda, siren pip Brisbane
St Kilda and the final siren beat Brisbane in a drama-packed AFL match at Telstra Dome.
The siren sounded as Jason Akermanis' pass was in the air to Luke Power, who marked.
Power, who was inside 50m, was not allowed to have a shot at goal and the Saints won by five points, 13.12 (90) to 13.7 (85).
Moments earlier, Lion Darryl White was running the ball out of defence when team-mate Martin Pike was controversially penalised for a shepherd on Heath Black.
St Kilda led by 32 points early in the second half before Brisbane made its late charge and the Saints won despite kicking no goals in the last term.
St Kilda key forward Nick Riewoldt was best afield with four goals and Alastair Lynch, after only one kick in the first half, also kicked four after the main break.
Less than a fortnight after the Saints sacked ruckman Matthew Capuano, they lost two other ruckmen today through injury.
Trent Knobel was concussed when he fell and hit his head on the ground at the first bounce of the last term.
Earlier today, Barry Brooks hurt his knee in the VFL and it is feared he will need a season-ending reconstruction.
No.1 ruckman Justin Koschitzke is already missing with an ankle injury.
