Second good enough for Stoltz
Australian Andre Stolz picked up a quarter of a million dollars for his equal second placing at the $2.85 million Johnnie Walker Classic at Perth's Lake Karrinyup on Sunday.
The former Victorian Open and ANZ Championship winner completed the most lucrative tournament of the Australia summer with a six-under-par 66 to share second place at 19-under with compatriot Stephen Leaney.
The 35-year-old, who has been in fair rather than spectacular form this year, produced a bogey-free round for a welcome windfall behind runaway winner Ernie Els.
It increased Stolz's winnings for the summer from $24,000 to $272,000 after a tie for 35th at the New Zealand Open and 20th spot at the Heineken Open.
Stolz, 32, said he had to thank his coach Gary Barter from the Australian golf club for much of his success following a slump four years when he was without a mentor.
"Yes I hit rock bottom four years ago, I've never had a coach and started to get into bad habits, I now have a coach in Gary Barter," said Stolz who plays on the Japanese tour.
"I've always practised hard but I can put everything down to him."
Meanwhile Leaney was looking forward to the world match play championship in California in a fortnight's time after his placing secured him a berth.
"That has been motivating me all week," he said.
"I knew it was top ten, I didn't know it was top seven but I knew I had to play well this week and from where I've been mentally the past few weeks, I've done well."
