Ponting sees room for improvement
Australian one-day cricket captain Ricky Ponting believes his side has much more room for improvement despite inflicting a crushing win on New Zealand in Faridabad.
Australia dismissed the Black Caps for a paltry 97 in the tri-series match and then rattled off the target for the loss of just two wickets, winning with more than 33 overs in hand.
But Ponting said the world champions had more in reserve ahead of Saturday's day-night clash against India in Mumbai.
"The batting was a bit better today, we only chased 97 today though and not 280-odd like we did last game," said Ponting, who made 12 in Australia's 2-101.
"I think we've all still got a bit of work to do.
"I know I didn't hit the ball as well as I could of today so I've got a bit or work to do.
"We've also got to cut down our extras (32) that we bowled today and if we can do that and keep improving every game then things will be heading in the right direction for us."
Australia leaves for Mumbai on Friday.
Meanwhile, New Zealand coach Ashley Ross said the Kiwis were already looking ahead to a return fixture against Australia on Monday.
"We'll be coming out nice and strong when we play Australia in Pune," Ross said.
