Ponting not affected by Lillee comments
Ricky Ponting said he was not concerned by comments from former great Dennis Lillee calling for him to be sacked as Australia's Test skipper in favour of Shane Warne.
Ponting also said he failed to see why any changes should be made to the side which earlier this week lost 2-1 in the five-Test series in England, conceding the Ashes after Australia had held them for 16 years.
Opener Justin Langer was the only batsman averaging over 40 for Australia despite a star-studded batting lineup.
Lillee wrote in a column in the West Australian newspaper Warne was the "pseudo captain" for Australia in the fifth Test at The Oval and that Australia should bite the bullet and allow Ponting to simply concentrate on his batting without the responsibility of the captaincy.
"I'm not concerned about those things. I can't worry about them," Ponting said at Sydney Airport.
"As long as I'm doing the right thing by everyone in my dressing room, as a team and the coaching staff, that's all I can do," added Ponting, who finished second in Australia's Test averages for the series with 359 runs at 39.88.
"I know that I'm not going to keep everybody happy along the way.
It's obviously a very, very disappointing result for us as a team.
"Taking nothing away from England ... They've outplayed us in the Tests so they thoroughly deserve to come away with the Ashes.
"We've been below our best and we've got some work to do before the next time we play them."
