Aussies fined for slow over rate
The Australian cricket team has been punished for its slow over rate in Tuesday night's tri-series decider against Sri Lanka in Brisbane.
Australia comfortably won the match by nine wickets but International Cricket Council match referee Jeff Crowe slapped the home side with fines following the Gabba clash.
Captain Ricky Ponting was fined 20 per cent of his match fee while his teammates were fined 10 per cent of their match fees.
"After taking into account the playing conditions and allowances for stoppages, Australia were two overs short of the ICC requirement," Crowe said in a statement.
"As per ICC regulations the Australian players will receive a 10 per cent fine of their match fee and captain Ricky Ponting will receive a 20 per cent fine of his match fee."
