Roos desperate to gain momentum

The stuttering Kangaroos will be on a mission to gain some momentum before the Test series against Great Britain when they play the best of England's young brigade in London on Tuesday night.

Coach Chris Anderson, whose side is coming off a less-than-convincing win over a French elite selection in Carcassonne on Saturday, will use the clash to continue experimenting with his halves and centres before the tourists' final hit-out against Wales at the weekend.

Anderson made seven changes to the team which struggled to beat the French 34-10, bringing back Brett Kimmorley to start at halfback, with Craig Gower moving out to five-eighth after the pair combined well in the second half in Carcassonne.

Captain Darren Lockyer returns to fullback after missing the French game following a bout of concussion in the Test loss to New Zealand the previous week, while Danny Buderus comes in at hooker with Michael Crocker demoted to the bench and Shane Webcke replacing Robbie Kearns at prop.

The Kangaroos have an entirely new back row with Craig Fitzgibbon and Steve Simpson in the second row and Luke Ricketson at lock.

Willie Mason and Trent Waterhouse move to the bench while Phil Bailey is out after injuring his left foot in the win over the French.

Anderson's options in the centres continue to be restricted by Ryan Girdler's absence due to a calf injury, with Shannon Hegarty and Michael DeVere retaining their places.

The tourists acknowledge they aren't playing well after struggling for 60 minutes to put away the plucky French and realise the importance of finding form sooner rather than later.

"It wasn't that pretty," prop Richard Villasanti said.

"But I thought we sorted out a few combinations. We have to get a bit more consistency. It's about getting some momentum going into the big games.
