Storm 'will give as good as they get'
He can't send them out clad in armour, but Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy has promised his young Storm forwards will give as good as they get against Brisbane's monstrous pack in Sunday night's NRL grand final at Telstra Stadium.
Led by veteran props Shane Webcke and Petero Civoniceva, the Broncos boast the bigger and more experienced forward pack for the premiership decider.
But after watching his Storm win 22 of 26 games and claim the minor premiership by a massive eight-point margin, Bellamy is confident his young charges will more than hold there own in the battle up front.
"I can't send them out in a suit of armour and I can't put up any brick walls for them to hide behind, they're just going to have to take it," Bellamy said when asked if his young forwards were prepared for a Brisbane onslaught.
"But we'll be taking some and we'll be giving some. That's the just way it is.
"They've done it all year my young forwards, so they're not going to go and try hide anywhere tomorrow night."
The Storm arrived in Sydney on Saturday afternoon with Bellamy saying there would be no late changes to his side which got through Saturday morning's training session in Melbourne unscathed.
Garret Crossman, Jake Webster and the injured Michael Crocker, who flew up with his teammates after being cruelly ruled out earlier in the week, will all drop off the seven-man bench originally named, with Jamie Feeney also missing out.
Bellamy revealed he had spoken during the week to referee Paul Simpkins - who also officiated the Storm's preliminary final win over St George Illawarra - but said there was little significance in the meeting.
Rival Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett has made it well known he would not be talking Simpkins ahead of the game.
"I did speak to him," Bellamy said.
"But we spoke about a couple of issues... it was just about last week and that was it.
"There were a couple of penalties there I thought were a bit tough on us and he cleared that up and I gave my opinion and we agreed to disagree."
With the Broncos keeping their plans well guarded on which of star backs Karmichael Hunt and Justin Hodges will start at fullback, Bellamy said the Storm had prepared for any scenario Brisbane may throw at them.
"Wherever (Hunt) starts we're prepared for it," Bellamy said.
"Obviously they'll probably do a bit of swapping around as they've done the last couple of weeks. It's worked for them, so I'd imagine they would follow that again."
Bellamy said returning to Melbourne after Thursday's grand final breakfast in Sydney had not done any harm , the players looking fresh at training.
Ahead of his first grand final as coach, Bellamy admitted he would likely begin feeling more nervous tomorrow.
"To me it's just been like any other week, it will probably be different tomorrow, I'll have a few nerves I'd imagine."
