Ribot expects Bellamy to re-sign soon
Melbourne Storm chief executive John Ribot is confident coach Craig Bellamy will sign a new two-year deal with the NRL club by the end of this week.
Bellamy's manager John Fordham said there were a "raft of issues" to sort through before the former Brisbane assistant coach put pen to paper.
Fordham, who is negotiating with News Limited executives Peter Jourdain and Frank Stanton, declined to elaborate.
News Ltd owns 75 per cent of the Storm and recently guaranteed the future of the club for at least another five years following speculation it could fold.
Ribot said he had spoken to Bellamy on Saturday night about the coach's future.
"Everything seems to be going pretty good," Ribot said.
"I think he's pretty close (to signing). I've spoken to Craig so hopefully this week we can get something sorted out."
Ribot said the furore over rape allegations made against two Storm players had been a major distraction for the club last week.
"It was a week we'd like to forget," was the only comment he would make on one of several scandals which have cast a shadow over the game recently.
There was talk that Bellamy could return to Brisbane to coach the Broncos but their club chief executive Bruno Cullen insists Wayne Bennett will still be at the helm next year.
