Dockers' pre-season form continues
The Fremantle Dockers have rounded out an impressive pre-season with an easy win over Port Adelaide at Fremantle Oval.
Matthew Pavlich kicked four goals in the 19.9 (124) to 9.11 (65) win, the club's third win from four matches in the pre-season.
Fremantle set up the victory with a 12 goal to two opening half.
An all-in brawl after the three-quarter time siren was the most interesting moment of the second half as Port minimised the damage.
While Pavlich was his usual polished self it was the form of Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands that would have brought the most pleasure to the 5000 fans in attendance.
He was involved two of the game's highlights with his deft palming of the ball. One of his taps went straight to Brad Dodd in the forward pocket who subsequently goaled, while another knock went straight down Des Headland's throat before he ran straight through the square and delivered a perfect pass to Adam Campbell.
Campbell, a Victorian key position player in his first AFL match missed that shot but earlier kicked the first goal of the game.
Daniel Motlop scrambled Port's first just two minutes later but from there the visitors went missing as Fremantle posted the next nine of the game. Pavlich was too good for Troy Chaplin and had four goals by the main break. Marcus Drum, another youngster to play his first game for Fremantle, finished the night with three goals that underlined his potential.
Port struggled to get inside Fremantle's 50m arc from early in the first quarter until half-time. They flooded heavily in defence to try to stem the damage but with little success. Roger Ebert was busy in the midfield and Motlop was handy but the Fremantle players looked much sharper.
Just before half-time Sandilands again put his stamp on the contest with a strong mark in the forward line which he converted.
To their credit Port won the third term and could have gained a bit more respectability if they had not hit the post three times.
The only sour note for the home side was a thumb injury to small forward Paul Medhurst. He did not return after half-time but should be fit for Fremantle's opening game of the year against Hawthorn in Launceston.
Des Headland also left the field in the third quarter with an ankle injury.
