Johnson doubtful about one-day squad
Fiery quick Mitchell Johnson says not even a spellbinding performance during Monday's Twenty20 match against South Africa will earn him a swift recall to the Australian one-day squad.
Johnson, 24, was overlooked for the world champions' Tri-Series squad despite making his international debut in New Zealand last month.
He failed to make an impact against the Kiwis but will get another chance to make a name for himself in front of an expected sell-out crowd at the Gabba.
Johnson, though, said his performances in the domestic one-day arena would count for more than a one-off Twenty20 appearance.
"I've got to keep playing ING Cup cricket," he said.
"I don't think Twenty20's got too much to do with it. It's just a bit of fun in trying to get spectators hooked on cricket."
Johnson has taken seven wickets at an average of just over 40 in ING Cup this season and lost his place in the one-day squad to West Australian quick Brett Dorey.
He said patience was the key to a recall.
"I wasn't even expecting the call-up to the Twenty20 (squad) so it wasn't a big issue for me," Johnson said.
"Hopefully down the track I'll get another opportunity there."
Johnson adorned himself in a white headband and pink zinc during Friday night's washed out Twenty20 match between Queensland and Tasmania and hinted that more surprises could be in store for the crowd.
"I might ask Ricky (Ponting) if we can do something special for it," he said.
