Boomers outclass Japan
The Boomers overcame a vocal crowd to beat host nation Japan 69-65 in their international basketball clash in Kumamoto.
There was plenty of physical play from Japan, but Olympians and team leaders Glen Saville and CJ Bruton guided the Australians to a healthy 38-28 lead in the first half.
After the break, the Japanese came out firing and the young Boomers team was tested to the full.
With just over a minute remaining in the match the Boomers found themselves up by only four points, but a solid hook shot by Wade Helliwell extended the lead to six.
But the Boomers held out for the win and now head to Nagasaki on Saturday where they meet Japan again.
