Tune prepares to re-sign with Reds
Ben Tune is just waiting for the Australian Rugby Union to finalise an incentive-based contract before signing on for a 12th season with Queensland.
Regarded until last week as a virtual certainty to link with the Western Force in 2006, Tune will complete what many see as a remarkable turnaround when the ARU ties up the loose ends of the deal.
The former Wallabies winger is still talking with the Force but Reds officials are feel assured the 46-Test stalwart will stay in Brisbane.
Tune wants to make an announcement as soon as possible, and is hopeful of having his future settled before Friday's round 10 clash against South Africa's Cats at Ballymore.
The birth of his second child while on tour in South Africa and his eye-catching return in the 30-25 win over the Sharks on the weekend has Tune keen to remain in Brisbane.
"There's a fair few meetings that are going backwards and forwards and that all takes time," he said.
"There's still a few things that need to happen before I can publicly say."
Money won't be a factor in the decision with the Queensland and Force offers, combined with the ARU's largely incentive-based deal, identical.
Chronic knee problems sidelined Tune for almost two years and dropped him off the ARU contract list last year.
He has met with Perth officials several times but denied any bad blood should exist after reports speculated he had agreed to a move.
