Highly-rated Richmond recruit Richard Tambling will resume playing this weekend after missing the opening fortnight of the AFL season.

The No.4 pick in last year's draft impressed in round one of the Wizard Cup, but has struggled in the last month with toe, back and hamstring problems.

"He'd had a problem with the toe for a couple of weeks, I hadn't been asked the question whether there was anything else wrong with him, so I didn't answer it," coach Terry Wallace said.

"He's had a few other little niggling problems as well, he's been having a few problems with a back and needed to have a couple of injections last week.

"We'll expect he'll train fully this week and play on the weekend, we think we've overcome the problems he's been suffering with, probably for two or three weeks now."

Wallace said it was difficult to say this early in the week whether Tambling would be ready for his AFL debut on Sunday against the Western Bulldogs or resume in the reserves.
