Price on target to lead Warriors
New skipper Steve Price is confident he will be leading out the New Zealand Warriors when they begin their National Rugby League campaign against Manly in just over a week.
Price has yet to play for the Warriors, having sat out the club's two trial matches because of a shin problem.
But he returned to training this week and said he was on target "for sure" to face the Sea Eagles in Auckland on March 13.
While he would have preferred to have had some pre-season game time under his belt, he didn't see match fitness as an issue.
"Obviously I would have liked to have played in the trials, but I've been training pretty well," he said.
"I'm going to be very fresh anyway for the first game. I might not be able to do as many things as I would like, but I'll be as close as I can be."
Price moved to the Warriors after having been part of two premiership-winning campaigns in an 11-season career with the Bulldogs.
When he shifted across the Tasman, he left a club that had just become champions again to join one that finished the competition second last.
But the prop, who has played four Tests for the Kangaroos and 16 matches for Queensland, was upbeat about the Warriors' chances of making an impact this year.
"I'm very positive, very confident," he said.
