McGrath holds up Bushrangers
Evergreen Australian pace bowler Glenn McGrath warmed up for the upcoming tour of New Zealand by booting Victoria out of the ING Cup with a vintage four-wicket haul at the SCG.
McGrath picked up 4-36 from 10 overs, snaring Victoria's top four wickets as the visitors were skittled out for 152 in reply to the Blues' total of 4-266 from 50 overs.
The Blues' 114-run victory ensured the Bushrangers finished third on the one-day table and missed out on the February 20 final, to be played between Queensland and Tasmania at the Gabba.
An unbeaten 96 from Brad Haddin and a stylish 78 from NSW captain Simon Katich set up the home side's innings before McGrath and legspinner Stuart MacGill (4-45) destroyed the Victorian run chase.
McGrath enjoyed the chance of an extra hit-out before Australia departs on Wednesday to New Zealand for a five-match one-day series starting Saturday in Wellington.
The tour begins with a Twenty20 international in Auckland on Thursday and concludes with three Tests.
The 35-year-old troubled all the batsmen on his hometown pitch and the offcutter which bowled David Hussey (1) typified his match-winning performance.
"There's always pressure. Coming back for NSW, people expect you to do well and probably bowl teams out," McGrath said.
"I just try to go out there and prepare as I would for a normal game.
"It was good for the guys to finish the season off well and have such a dominant win.
