McGrath out of Test series
Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath has reportedly been ruled out of the remaining two Tests against India.
The Daily Telegraph reported that McGrath's surgically repaired left ankle has failed to heal properly after two operations to remove bone spurs.
McGrath is unavailable to play for NSW against Tasmania at the SCG on Friday in what was meant to be his comeback game.
He was forced to cancel a net session at the SCG and NSW team physiotherapist Pat Farhart said the ankle was still not right.
"It basically hasn't settled, it's still swelling up," Farhart told the newspaper of the ankle.
"He is still getting pain when he bowls."
The pair agreed a more realistic return date for McGrath would be the Blues' Pura Cup clash against Victoria in Newcastle on January 9.
The news is a blow to Australia's hopes of coming back in the series, with fast bowling resources severely depleted.
Jason Gillespie limped off Adelaide Oval on Tuesday with a groin injury and Brad Williams is also in doubt for Melbourne after damaging his left shoulder in the second Test.
However, speedster Brett Lee is expected to earn a Test call-up on Friday, when selectors finalise the third Test squad, after coming through unscathed against Victoria last weekend.
