Bangladesh leads Zimbabwe in first Test

Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar hit a half century to put his side in a strong position on the fourth day of the first cricket Test against Zimbabwe in Chittagong.

Zimbabwean all-rounder Elton Chigumbura took a career-best 5-54 but it was not enough to stop the home side from building a commanding 380-run lead.

"I am a hundred per cent confident of winning. But we have to take seven wickets in 90 overs, and that may not be easy," Bashar said.

Bangladesh will be depending on spinners Mohammad Rafique and Enamul Haque to do the job with the ball expected to turn more on the final day on Monday.

"We have never been in this (winning) situation before," Bashar said.

Rafique was unbeaten at 14, with Haque yet to bat, when Bangladesh declared its second innings at 9-204 after tea - backed by a hefty first innings total of 488.

Zimbabwe lost two early wickets for only two runs when it resumed its run chase, with paceman Tapash Baishya picking up opener Barney Rogers and Vusimuzi Sibanda for ducks.

But Zimbabwe's skipper Tatenda Taibu was pinning hopes on his middle-order batsmen to save the match.

"We are close to winning the match. We have a lot of solid batsmen who are capable," Taibu said.

Rogers was caught at second-slip by substitute fielder Manjural Islam Rana, while Sibanda was adjudged lbw.
