I can't top Warney's wickets: McGrath
The ageless Glenn McGrath became the most successful paceman in Test history but he doesn't believe he can catch teammate Shane Warne.
The seamer now tops the wicket-taking lists for fast bowlers after claiming the scalp of West Indian maestro Brian Lara (5) for the 14th time in the extended form of the game.
It moved McGrath (520 wickets) ahead of West Indian great Courtney Walsh (519) and third overall behind Warne (626) and Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan (565).
In reply to Australia's 345, Warne (3-23) and Stuart MacGill (4-39) bundled the World XI out for 190 late on day two of the Super Test at the SCG.
Australia was 1-66 in its second innings when stumps were called 14 overs early, a lead of 221 runs, with Matthew Hayden (27no) and Ricky Ponting (17no) at the crease.
McGrath, 35, said it was a huge honour to overtake Walsh but that he was out of his depth chasing down Warne and Muralitharan.
"It is a big honour because Courtney was a cricketer that I looked up to and admired, a freak of a player who competed for 21 years straight without hardly taking a break," he said.
"I can't see myself catching the next two (Warne and Muralitharan) but without doubt my next goal is to reach the 600 Test wicket goal."
Pig shooter McGrath (2-34) from country NSW has been picking off the best batters in the world for a dozen years and today was no different.
He had Indian skipper Rahul Dravid feather a catch to Adam Gilchrist for a duck to equal the record of Walsh before then dismissing Walsh's former teammate Lara.
