Kerrie Meares continued her successful comeback to international track cycling , winning her second title at the Oceania championships.

The 22-year-old, who was the better-credentialled of the Meares sisters until Anna's stunning performances this year, qualified fastest in the sprint and then sailed through the match rounds.

She beat New Zealander Katrie Lakie two heats to nil in the final, while Lakie's compatriot Liz Williams beat Australian Liz Georgouras 2-0 in the ride-off for bronze.

Also, Ben Kersten rode a smart race to win the men's keirin.

Kerrie had to end her Olympic campaign earlier this year because of a debilitating back injury.

She easily won the 500m time trial.

The 22-year-old now has two confirmed starts next March at the world track titles in Los Angeles, because the winner of an individual race at the Oceanias receives an automatic berth in that event at the worlds.

Apart from some slight muscle soreness in her back and a lack of fitness, Meares is pleased with her progress.

"I'm struggling a little bit because my fitness at the moment needs a bit of improvement," she said.

"I'm not quite recovering very well after (Friday night's) time trial.
