Ryan recalled for Kangaroos final
Australian coach Wayne Bennett has recalled Bulldogs back rower Andrew Ryan to the Kangaroos starting side for the Tri-Nations rugby league final against Great Britain at Elland Road.
Bennett named his side for the decider, omitting Ben Kennedy and Brent Tate from the 19-man squad named earlier this week.
Darren Lockyer, who made a successful return from a rib injury at the weekend, will captain the side while Craig Fitzgibbon has been moved to the bench to make room for Ryan.
"I think he's played really well on the tour," Bennett said of Ryan.
"He adds a little bit of variety to our game. He's got a little bit of footwork that helps sometimes out there. I think he's played well.
"He's worked with Willie Tonga a fair bit on that side defensively as well and I think that's a combination that's important for us.
"In the end we decided to dance with the ones who brought us. We decided to stay with the team we've had for the last four or five weeks with the odd exception through injury."
Team: Anthony Minichiello, Luke Rooney, Willie Tonga, Shaun Berrigan, Matt Sing, Darren Lockyer (c), Brett Kimmorley, Shane Webcke, Danny Buderus, Petero Civoniceva, Nathan Hindmarsh, Andrew Ryan, Tonie Carroll. Interchange: Mark O'Meley, Willie Mason, Craig Wing, Craig Fitzgibbon.
