No World Cup warm-ups for Wallabies
The Wallabies have ruled out playing any warm-up games before the Rugby World Cup, saying training is enough to get them on track for their title defence.
But Australian coach Eddie Jones has recognised that some players need more game time than they're getting, with reserve halfback Chris Whitaker back to playing with his Sydney club Randwick.
He is one of six Wallabies involved in club football in NSW and Queensland, excused as the Australian players reassembled at their Coffs Harbour training base.
Winger Wendell Sailor was also absent after battling a virus, but will join the squad in the morning.
Whitaker hasn't played a full match since an appearance for Randwick back in May.
The 29-year-old has only played four minutes during the Tri-Nations series, when he came on late in Australia's 29-9 win over Brisbane.
He was left on the bench for the England Test, last playing for Australia for seven minutes against Wales in June.
However Whitaker showed he hadn't lost his touch, snapping a quick pass which set up the play resulting in the Wallabies' second try against the Springboks.
"He's been training really well but he hasn't had much game time, and we feel he would benefit from having a run with Randwick," Jones said.
The Australians only have the deciding Bledisloe Cup in Auckland next Saturday before the October 10 tournament kick-off against Argentina.
