New faces galore in All-Australian team
Call this the New Guard AFL All-Australian team.
There are 12 newcomers, four second-timers and only five survivors form the 2003 lineup.
There's no Michael Voss, no Nathan Buckley, no James Hird, no Andrew McLeod and no Gavin Wanganeen.
But there are also few surprises about the powerful lineup which was named on Tuesday night.
Adelaide captain and 2003 Brownlow Medallist Mark Ricciuto was named skipper of the team for the first time and earnt his seventh selection.
He was the most-capped member of the 22, with Port Adelaide centre half-forward Warren Tredrea filling that position for the fourth-straight year.
Brisbane's "Fab Five" midfielders, Jason Akermanis and Nigel Lappin, also made the team for the fourth time.
Those four players, plus Geelong fullback Matthew Scarlett, were the only players to keep their places from last year.
Voss, whose knee injuries slightly dented his output this season, was the only member of the Lions' Fab Five not to earn selection.
Simon Black won his third selection and Brisbane team-mate Luke Power, who stepped up to become a top-flight midfielder this season, was one of the All-Australian debutants.
