Symonds avoids further cricket sanctions
Andrew Symonds has escaped further sanction but the handling of his misdemeanours has been called into question by Cricket Australia.
CA announced it would not take further action on the big Queenslander's late night drinking session before the start of last weekend's one-day match against Bangladesh in Cardiff.
The decision capped a speedy return to favour for Symonds who was man of the match in Australia's 57-run Tri-Series win over England at the Riverside Ground on Thursday.
Symonds' first outing since being handed a two-match suspension for his misbehaviour put Australia's Ashes tour back on track following four straight losses.
CA put out a statement saying no more action would be taken on the matter.
However chairman Bob Merriman said a number of issues raised from the incident would be reviewed by CA's board in August, and had a veiled dig at the handling of the matter by team management.
Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting had said before the match against Bangladesh that Symonds was missing because of an injury and the flu, before eventually admitting the real reason for his withdrawal.
"A number of principles have been raised which need clarification or reconfirmation at a Board level," Merriman said following his arrival in London.
"These include the Board's very strong commitment to managing Australian cricket in a manner which is open, honest and timely.
"It is also appropriate for the Board to review the formal link between the processes which underpin the management of internal team disciplinary issues as operated since late 2003; and the requirements of the Code of Behaviour and player contracts.
