Sims cleared to play against Manly
St George Illawarra prop Ashton Sims has been cleared to play in the NRL clash with Manly on Sunday after suffering a sickening blow to the head from Newcastle forward Clint Newton.
Sims, 19, has had his teeth wired after being struck on the jaw by Newton last Friday night in Newcastle and will wear a double mouthguard at Oki Jubilee Stadium this weekend.
Dragons doctor Martin Raftery said Sims still suffered headaches on Sunday night due to medication for a mouth infection.
Club football manager Neil Lovett added: "His teeth are a little bit rattled and he's got a cut on his lip but he'll play the game.
"He didn't get any broken jaw or anything like that. He's got a few headaches but that's about it."
Dragons prop Jason Ryles (rib cartilage) and winger Reece Simmonds (niggling injuries) will be sidelined for the game.
Forward Justin Poore (corked thigh) will be assessed during the week.
Parramatta captain Nathan Cayless will undergo X-rays in the hope of being cleared to return from a broken arm for the Eels' must-win home game against Penrith on Saturday night.
Kiwi international Cayless, who's been sidelined for 17 weeks, is "keen as mustard" to help his teammates earn a miracle passage to the finals and has one eye firmly on the end-of-season Tri-Nations series.
"I thought I was a chance to play last week (against the NZ Warriors) but the doctor said it wasn't quite right," said the prop.
