Orford to decide on future next week
The short-term future of Melbourne Storm halfback Matt Orford should be decided by next week but the jury is still out on where Newcastle skipper Ben Kennedy will play next season.
Orford is set to sign a one year deal - reportedly worth up to $500,000 - with the Storm next week after his manager George Mimis met with the franchise hierarchy.
However, Kennedy, 30, is yet to make up his mind over a two year playing contract, with a one year option, from Manly that reportedly includes a job with major sponsor and majority shareholder Max Delmege.
In the deal, Kennedy will work with Delmege, a commercial property developer, after he retires from rugby league.
The Knights allowed Kennedy to test his market value before the June 30 deadline and he attracted interest from Manly and the New Zealand Warriors.
But Kennedy's manager Mike Newton said it had been narrowed down to Manly and Newcastle which has not given up on the inspirational backrower.
"There's no further comment to make. He's got the two offers, he's considering those and he'll let me know when he is ready to make a decision - I'm as much in the dark as anyone at this stage," Newton said.
"He hasn't indicated a time frame (of making a decision) - I'm waiting on a phone call, whenever it comes it comes."
A Manly spokesman confirmed the club was waiting for a response while Knights CEO Ken Conway said contract negotiations with Kennedy were expected to resume next week.
"The CEO of Manly told me yesterday that they had had discussions with Ben and made him an offer," Conway told ABC.
