Turkey aim to win at all costs
Turkey's national soccer coach Ersun Yanal said his side has adopted a "win at all costs" approach and will use the tour of Australia and Asia to kick start a new period of dominance for the world No.7 nation.
The 2002 World Cup semi-finalists have had a lean time of late, crashing out of the Euro 2004 qualifiers to unheralded Latvia and winning just one game in its past seven starts.
But the recently appointed Yanal says the games against the Socceroos can steel his team for eventual qualification for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
"The Turkish national team is a successful team and there is always pressure on us to win," said Yanal, a former club coach of current Socceroo Josip Skoko at Turkish club Genclerbirligi.
"There will be a win at all costs mentality.
"There was a downturn in Turkish soccer but it's time to change that around.
"Turkey will be without German-based Yildiray Basturk and Umit Davala as well as Trabzonspor striker Fatih Tekke, after initially naming the trio in the touring squad.
Basturk and Davala were key figures in Turkey's brilliant World Cup run in Japan and Korea.
Yanal is expected to blood several young players while in Australia including exciting forward Zaf Biryol, top scorer in the Turkish league.
Inter Milan midfielder Emre Belezoglou said his side came here expecting to get two wins.
