Barrett out of Dogs game - and Origin I
St George Illawarra captain Trent Barrett will be left out of the NSW side for State of Origin I after losing his final chance to impress Blues selectors.
Barrett has attempted to train with the Dragons before Saturday's NRL clash with the Bulldogs - a game which shaped as his last shot at making the 17-man Blues squad to be announced on Monday.
But the 26-year-old's troublesome hamstring flared again, leaving him disappointed at not being able to lead the Dragons this weekend and foiling his opportunity to regain his NSW No.6 jersey.
Blues selectors have already shown they won't be taking risks on injured players.
Test winger Timana Tahu will not be considered for Origin I because of a hamstring injury suffered in the April 23 Anzac Day Test - despite believing he would have been fit to play.
"I'm very frustrated," said Barrett, who hasn't played for nearly a month.
"It's feeling good and then as soon as I go to open up I feel a twinge again.
"It's pretty shattering. I have never had a hamstring injury before."
Barrett, who missed last year's Origin series with an ankle injury, admitted representative football was the last thing on his mind.
The classy five-eighth has missed St George Illawarra's past three games and is itching to get back on the paddock.
