Girdler set to retire
Penrith star Ryan Girdler has revealed he is set to quit the NRL at the end of the year.
The veteran of 215 first grade games says injuries - sternum and calf injuries last year and pleurisy this year - have pushed him towards retirement.
"Unless something drastic happens I'll hang `em up at the end of this year - it's a young man's game," he told the Daily Telegraph.
"Injuries have knocked me around a bit and maybe the signs are there.
"It probably will be my last year ... I just haven't made it official yet."
The Panthers and the Roosters clash on Friday night in a replay of last year's grand final.
