Hockeyroos draw with GB
An improved effort wasn't enough for the Hockeyroos to notch their first win at the Athens International Hockey Tournament after a 2-2 draw with Great Britain.
In defender Louise Dobson's 200th international match, Australia again created more opportunities than its opponent, with 18 goal shots to seven, but couldn't find the winning goal which would have transferred that ascendancy onto the scoresheet.
Although the Hockeyroos improved on their accuracy in front of the net compared with Wednesday's match against Spain, coach David Bell said there was obviously still room for the forward line to become more productive in the tournament's remaining matches.
Captain Katrina Powell was again rested but Bell said she will play on Saturday against South Africa.
"One area in particular that we haven't been match hardened in over the past two days is our conversion rate," he said.
"Without Katrina Powell and Julie Towers (who will rejoin the team for the Test series in South Africa), we have lacked an element of desperation up front and the ability to hold the ball in our attacking half.
"The goal scoring ability of that pair has also been a major element missing from our team."
Australia opened the scoring in the sixth minute through Suzie Faulkner, with Scot Linda Clement scoring the first of her two goals just before the break.
Clements second goal 12 minutes after half time gave Great Britain an unexpected lead but Peta Gallagher converted to draw the scores level in the 54th minute.
