Australia wins hockey tournament
Forward Travis Brooks scored two goals as Australia upset defending champion Pakistan 4-3 to claim the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.
Australia's victory ended Pakistan's unbeaten run in the ten-day competition and came two days after the Australians scored another upset - a 4-2 win over Germany in the preliminary round.
Pakistan, seeking its first title under new coach Dutchman Roelant Altmans, was let down by poor finishing and lapses in concentration.
In another surprise result, South Korea edged world champion Germany 3-2 in a penalty shoot out to take third place in the tournament, which many of the seven teams competing are using to test their squads before the Olympic qualifiers in March.
Spain beat Malaysia 2-1 in Sunday's other game, while India finished last in the tournament.
Australia, which last won the tournament in 1998, relied on quick counterattacks to overcome Pakistan.
Brooks' two quick goals in the 21st and 29th minutes stunned Pakistan, which managed a reply through striker Kashif Jawad at the 30-minute mark.
Penalty corner specialist Sohail Abbas scored in the 44th minute to level the score, but Australia regained the lead a minute later through Michael Boyce.
Troy Elder's penalty corner strike in the 57th minute gave Australia a 4-2 lead, but a determined effort from Pakistan saw Sohail score again to earn the highest goal tally of the tournament at 10.
Goalkeeper Ko Dong-sik was the hero for South Korea, stopping three crucial German shots in a penalty shootout after the Asian's came back from a two-goal deficit to level the game 3-3 at the end of regulation and force the game into overtime.
