Lehmann confident of his abilities
Australian batsman Darren Lehmann believes he has the ability to succeed at Test level as he faces an important six weeks starting with Friday's third Test against England in Perth.
Lehmann admitted he needed a decent score in the final three Ashes matches to ensure his Test career continues in the Caribbean next April.
The 32-year-old has scored 30, 20 not out and five since he was recalled to the Australian team for dumped batsman Mark Waugh, ending a four-year Test exile.
He was disappointed to score only five in his first home Test in Adelaide last Friday, falling to his brother-in-law Craig White after coming to the crease with Australia cruising at 4-397 in its first innings.
But Lehmann said he was now a more easygoing player and the veteran was not doubting his ability to kickstart his career.
"I've made runs against all teams in all conditions in one-day cricket and in India and Pakistan," he said.
"I've played enough cricket now to know how I'm going to score runs and what I'm going to do."
Australian Test cricket isn't littered with stories of batsman rebuilding a career after their 32nd birthdays but Lehmann seems certain to play for the entire Ashes series regardless of what happens in Perth on Friday.
Australia will start as short-priced favourites to seal its eighth successive Ashes series after winning the opening Tests by an 384 runs and an innings and 51 runs.
Both teams will train at the WACA Ground today, with England still worried about the fitness of batsman John Crawley (hip) and pace spearhead Andrew Caddick (back).
Crawley is rated unlikely to play after also missing the Adelaide Test while Caddick is running out of time to prove he can play on the pace-friendly wicket.
England allrounder Paul Collingwood, only called into the Test squad on Monday, is a chance of making his Test debut.
