Sullivan breaks 50m freestyle world mark
Eamon Sullivan has broken his world record in the 50m freestyle at the Olympic trials tonight.
He stopped the clock at 21.28seconds to lower his mark set last night of 21.41s by 0.13s in Sydney.
Sullivan broke last night's world record by throwing the coach's orders out the window, but followed Grant Stoelwinder's directions tonight and made further remarkable improvements.
He admitted he was surprised with his time and hoped it sent a strong message to all the sprinters around the world that the 22-year-old is the man to beat in Beijing.
"Hopefully they will be shaking in their boots," he said.
"It's pretty funny for me the 50m, I usually cannot remember anything. It's just such a blur and a rush of energy that it all happens so fast.
"I went against what my coach told me last night and still broke it. I got a few words spoken to me tonight and I followed it and have swum faster so thanks Stolly."
