Dent and Tamsett win Noosa Bolt races
Canberra runner Martin Dent showed his liking for the Noosa course again, winning a third straight title in the Asics Bolt 5km road race.
Dent, 28, was always in the lead group, before burning off Collis Birmingham to win in a time of 14 minutes and eight seconds.
Birmingham was second in 14:10 and Mark Tucker was third in 14:14.
Dent's best track event is the 3,000m steeplechase - and his experience there held him in good stead.
"With the steeplechase style, coming out of the bends really suits me and you don't get punished too much being at the front," he said.
"Because coming into the corners at the back can be a bit dicey.
"... I was coming out of the corners hard.
"Everyone was slowing down going into them and then you've got to work doubly hard to catch up."
Sydney's Lara Tamsett took advantage of the late withdrawals of pre-race favourites Lisa Corrigan and Suzy Walsham to win the women's 5km Bolt in 16:47 ahead of Jessica Gilfillan (17:12) and Helen Stanton (17:26).
"I felt really comfortable in the first half of the race and that's always a good sign with me," said the first-year university student.
"If I feel relaxed it's a good omen.
"I left it to the last lap and a half to make a surge and tried to pick up the pace a bit.
"I got a good gap and held on and it was good to do the last lap knowing I had it in the bag."
Tamsett, 19, has represented Australia at the world junior championships and the world cross-country titles.
She also enjoyed success in a mountain running event in Switzerland earlier this year.
