Allenby a master of the playoff
Local hero Robert Allenby continued his remarkable play-off record when he birdied the 18th hole twice in a row to win the Australian Masters.
Allenby broke a two-year winless drought as he won a four-way play-off at the second extra hole.
He now has an extraordinary 8-0 win-loss play-off record.
Along with Adam Scott, Craig Parry and Jarrod Moseley, Allenby finished 11 under the card on 277 after regulation play.
The quartet headed back to the 18th tee but at the end of the hole Parry and Moseley had been eliminated with pars and Allenby and Scott stayed alive with birdies.
Scott's tee shot at the second play-off hole rebounded into a greenside trap and he blasted out around 15 metres short of the pin.
Allenby arrowed an iron to within a metre. Scott's putt slipped by to the left and the Victorian scored his second straight birdie and his first Australian Masters.
It was the second year in succession Scott had been beaten in a play-off at the Masters - last year he lost to Peter Lonard.
Earlier Allenby and Parry both tossed away chances to win the tournament outright at precisely the same time.
Playing the 18th a group ahead of Allenby, Parry shot his approach shot right of the green and a poor chip resulted in a dropped shot.
