Dragons deny hotel rampage in Newcastle
St George Illawarra officials have been forced to deny reports their players took part in a night of over-the-top partying following their NRL win over Newcastle on Friday night.
A guest of the Crowne Plaza Newcastle fired off an email to Fairfax media on Monday alleging Dragons players had run through the halls of the hotel making loud noises into the early hours of Saturday morning.
The Dragons beat the Knights 20-4 at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Friday night to keep their slim finals hopes alive.
"I was kept up by the noise they made as they ran through the halls 'yahooing'," wrote the hotel guest, who identified himself as 'Mik'.
"The next morning, on entering the foyer, I noticed they had smashed a large statue into a thousand pieces.
"Then, at the front desk, I witnessed them being rude to the staff who were trying to settle the account.
"I feel that the players involved should be ashamed of themselves and publicly apologise to the staff, management and guests that had to endure their woeful behaviour."
But Dragons officials hit back at the report, claiming their investigations had found no complaints had been lodged to hotel management about the team's behaviour.
The club also claimed the statue had been broken by a third party.
"There was certainly no complaint from the management of the hotel about noise or damage to any of the rooms in the hotel, as has been asserted," the club said in a statement.
"Certainly any damage to hotel property, namely a statue, was not caused by a Dragons player."
The NRL was awaiting a report from the Dragons before making comment.
