Monfils upsets Hewitt in semi-final
Gael Monfils has upset Lleyton Hewitt's 6-4 7-5 in the semi-finals of the Hypo Group International.
After losing to world No.2 Rafael Nadal in the semis at Hamburg last week, Hewitt again fell just short of a finals appearance on clay as he was upstaged by 20-year-old Monfils.
The Frenchman needed just one break to claim the first set, before taking a 4-2 lead i the second.
Hewitt, though, rallied to go ahead 5-4, but the Australian again dropped serve, allowing Monfils to win three straight games and progress to his fifth ATP Tour final.
Monfils converted his third match point with an ace.
Hewitt was drawn to play Mix Mirnyi in the first round of the French Open, which begins on Sunday, with a possible clash against Nadal in the fourth round.
