Susie Maroney born with cerebral palsy
Swimmer Susie Maroney has revealed she was born with cerebral palsy.
But the world record-holding marathon swimmer kept the condition secret in fear of ridicule when she was younger, Fairfax reports.
Susie, now 32, and her twin brother Sean, also born with cerebral palsy, began swimming at six months to combat the condition and her entire family was enrolled in the battle for them to overcome their disabilities.
Susie went on to become a marathon swimmer and still holds world records in the sport, including for the fastest return crossing of the English Channel, when she was 16, Fairfax reports.
