Thorpe in doubt for Commonwealth Games
Champion swimmer Ian Thorpe is in doubt for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne because of illness.
Thorpe has been tested for whooping cough, glandular fever and chronic fatigue syndrome, but while he hasn't pulled out of the Games his management team is concerned about the swimmer's health.
"Various concerns. He hasn't progressed as well as everyone has hoped over the last week," Thorpe's manager David Flaskas told Channel Ten News.
"We're hoping over the next 48 hours things improve but it is a real concern at the moment and is being closely monitored by doctors."
Thorpe's treatment has reportedly been hampered as the antibiotics recommended to him are on the banned list.
Thorpe, Australia's most successful Olympian, is expected to meet with coach Tracey Menzies and national coach Alan Thompson in the coming two days to assess the situation.
