Wakefield axe coach Kear
Wakefield coach John Kear has been told his contract with the Super League club will not be renewed at the end of the season.
Kear, who joined Wakefield in 2006, spoke this week of his desire to stay at the club for several more years but, after discussions with Wakefield's board, it was decided that he will leave once the current campaign is over.
The news comes days after the club were given a Super League reprieve in the shape of a new three-year licence following Crusaders' unexpected withdrawal from the competition from 2012.
Although Kear's contract will not be renewed, he will remain in charge for the last five games of the season, starting with the visit of Crusaders on Sunday, while the club begin the search for a new head coach.
Wakefield chief executive James Elston said: "Having sat down with John this week, all parties felt it was the right time to make a change.
"John Kear has played a major part in the recent history of the Wildcats and I wish to place on record our thanks for what he has achieved since coming into the post in 2006.
"There have been some testing times at the club throughout his campaign and John has always approached each situation with dignity and professionalism.
"We wish him well for the future and remain supportive for the rest of this season."
Wakefield are currently second bottom of the Super League table after being hit with a four-point deduction for entering administration. They have won six of their 22 matches.
