Tiger Dwyer's NRL season appears over
Wests Tigers backrower Simon Dwyer has likely played his last match of the NRL season, with the neck injured suffered against Canterbury last week expected to take months to heal.
Dwyer suffered a brachial plexus injury as a result of a heavy impact collision with Bulldogs forward Michael Hodgson in last Friday's 16-6 loss at Campbelltown Stadium.
The City Origin representative was assisted from the field by trainers.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the club revealed the full extent of his injury.
"The impact has caused significant nerve damage to this area between the right shoulder and neck," the statement read.
"The nature of this uncommon injury is that it will take some months to determine the full extent of the damage to the nerves and to assess the rate of repair to this damage.
"At this stage, the medical advice is that Simon is not expected to return to the playing field this year."
The 22-year-old will continue his rehabilitation with the Tigers medical team.
