Robinson re-signs with Reds
Part-time bartender Beau Robinson revived his Super Rugby career with Queensland and he's set to extend it at least two more seasons after re-signing with the Reds.
The discarded NSW Waratahs flanker will remain a Red until the end of 2013, revealing he agreed to a new deal last month.
Queensland put off the announcement until the end of the season to limit distractions during the finals as they also work to retain all their in-form back-rowers.
Robinson, to return from a dislocated elbow in Saturday night's semi-final against the Blues, told AAP he was relieved to have some welcome security and stability after a three-year roller coaster ride.
After being cut by NSW in 2008, Robinson signed to play in Italy but cut short his stint following the death of his brother and last year plugged away in Sydney club rugby.
He only received his second chance when his former NSW coach, Ewen McKenzie, invited him to be a part of the Reds' wider training squad, though he needed to work behind a bar at an Ipswich hotel to make ends meet.
"It's good to finally have that security after a few years just floating about in the wilderness not knowing what was going to happen next," Robinson told AAP.
"I'm pretty proud. It's not lost on me what I've achieved this year so far - where I've come from and what I've had to do to get here - so it makes it extra special and means a lot more to me."
Robinson's re-signing and the development of teenage rising star Liam Gill ensures McKenzie will have his hands full juggling the playing time of both open-side flankers in 2012.
After being hemmed in behind Phil Waugh for four years at NSW, the 24-year-old had no qualms about continued competition.
"You don't want a free ride, I haven't had a free ride yet so I'm used to a bit of a battle and hard work and I wouldn't want it any other way," he said.
"I've been in that situation so many times that I don't worry about what anyone else is doing, it's only a waste of time."
Robinson returns to action after dislocating his elbow in the epic 17-16 win over the Crusaders in front of a record 48,301-strong crowd at Suncorp Stadium.
Gill is a strong chance of being retained on the bench in a 5-2 split of forwards and backs following his starring role in the 19-11 last-round victory over the Chiefs.
The pair would oppose the Blues' Braid brothers - former Reds marquee signing Daniel and his younger brother Luke who has filled his siblings' boots superbly following a neck injury.
