Melbourne Rebels sign third hooker
The Melbourne Rebels have added another New Zealand tight-forward to their inaugural Super 15 squad by signing ex-Junior All Blacks hooker Ged Robinson.
Robinson, who plays for the Wellington Lions in the New Zealand NPC, is the Rebels' third rake along with former Wallabies hooker Adam Freier and young Brisbane forward Heath Tessman.
The 27-year-old joins former All Blacks prop Greg Somerville and NZ-born locks Kevin O'Neill and Hoani Macdonald in Melbourne.
Rebels forwards coach Mark Bakewell said Robinson's signing would ensure there was fierce competition for the No.2 jersey.
"In the mould of traditional Kiwi hookers he is technically very strong in the set piece and offers a high, energetic work rate around the field," Bakewell said.
"He will fit in very well to the forward squad we are building."
