Blues defender on a mission
Carlton defender Michael Jamison is out to tick more personal boxes against Sydney on Sunday as his own improvement continues to mirror the Blues' rise.
He stood out of last week's win over Brisbane as a precaution due to a minor ankle problem but says he is fully fit to tackle the Swans at Etihad Stadium.
"The ankle is fine and was fine last week as well," Jamison said on Saturday.
"I could have easily got through but we brought Paul Bower through for a sub...and it was always the plan to give him a run and make sure my ankle was alright for the next week."
Jamison said his progress in defence is the product of a finely-tuned preparation but he still has work to do on parts of his game.
"My season's coming along okay and, just like the team itself, I've really focused on the next five or six weeks as a real improvement stage," he said.
"It's just all following on from a good pre-season so it allows me to get to more contests, not just get to one and put the hands on the knees and need a good breather.
"There are certainly things I need to get better at. I really want to perform against the top sides and I'm looking forward to playing Collingwood again in a few weeks."
The Blues went some way towards avenging their elimination final loss to the Swans last year when they beat them in round six, which was a key result, Jamison said.
"With the Sydney game, especially, I think we got a lot of confidence out of that.
"We hadn't won at the SCG for a long time and it was a scrappy day which probably suited them more than us.
"So to win that game, more on their terms than ours, we've got a lot of belief out of it."
While the win was important, Jamison will use tomorrow's match as an important indicator on his checklist.
"This week in particular there will be a couple of good challenges. Sam Reid's going really well for the Swans, Adam Goodes plays forward and is always dangerous," he said.
But the main focus for the Blues is to maintain their consistency.
"At this point last year we were tracking alright with seven wins but there were still big parts in games where we were dropping off and getting beaten pretty badly," Jamison said.
"This year the two games we've lost (against second placed Collingwood and unbeaten ladder leader Geelong) we've still been pretty competitive and there have been a lot more four quarter efforts."
